Highlights from our Second Meeting......

For me, the resource presentations were the highlight of our meeting tonight.  Both Ryan and Russ did an excellent job of choosing and presenting their resources, wikis and Moodle.  Each of them actually used the resource in the presentation, which was very effective.  Each presentation was well organized and clear.  I am always pleased when the first software presentations are successful, since that sets a high bar for everyone else!
It seemed a little difficult to get discussion going this evening.  I am hoping that the group will relax about speaking up and I need to work on techniques to stimulate discussion.  I think that the lecture presentation may have discouraged discussion and I will work on a different approach for next week.
Our Turkish visitors made for a very large group tonight and that may have inhibited some of our discussions also.  We can keep working on discussions together and perhaps our online discussion this week will help get in class discussions rolling also.

  1. I would like to add that I enjoyed Russ' presentation because I was able to see how I could use that in my high school classroom in the future. I've used Moodle and thought it was easy to navigate. I look forward to future presentations.

  3. I believe that Moodle has a very huge potential both for teaching and research purposes. Unfortunately, it is used only by the English department at ISU and is not available on a university level. However, ISUComm and CELT have been working together and decided that there might be a possibility for Moodle to become another course management system (in addition to WebCT) available for the whole university.
If some of you have any Moodle-related questions or would like to set up a demo Moodle course to play around with, please let me know.

  4. Nice work, Russ, on a great presentation!

It was a fun presentation to work on. I have been genuinely interested for the past year or more to come up with an alternative to the Wall in my CyTag class, and I think the wiki might be the answer. Since Blogger (blogging) is our next topic, I might try to think about how I could use blogging to make peer-editing and peer feedback a bit more interactive. And, as with the wiki that I hope might give students a way to maintain ownership of their collective brainstorming after the course is done, blogging might help facilitate continued peer feedback after the course is done.
